Snom, the international manufacturer of IP phones for professional users and businesses, is establishing fixed timing for its firmware releases – a feature that is rarely seen in the IP telephony market.
The aim of this voluntary commitment is to continuously increase the quality and security of Snom's own software – and to provide customers with greater planning security, particularly during these uncertain times.
The performance of IP phones, and therefore customer satisfaction and market success for providers, heavily depends on firmware in devices.
Be it security updates or, in the case of Snom’s latest release, the introduction of different display backgrounds – lengthy or irregular intervals for new software releases can be disappointing for customers and partners, impacting on a company's success.
Jan Boguslawski, Product Owner at Snom, said: "Building a good phone is one thing. But enabling the user to customize more than 900 settings, and thus facilitating highly specific communication projects across a business, is what distinguishes a manufacturer like Snom from others.”
Since its beginnings over 20 years ago, IP telephony has been inextricably linked to security. Snom therefore places the highest value on simple but secure software solutions.
This starts with details such as the requirement to enter a password when logging into each telephone. Snom also carries out extensive software and hardware tests, in which large numbers of desktop telephones are assessed for weak points and optimisation potential.
Jan Boguslawski added: "Although such live scenarios are much more complex than a complete test simulation, they are also more practical. Our partners greatly appreciate our speed combined with the high level of commitment, predictability and security in our firmware updates."
